Looks like snow is in the forecast for us here on the East Coast.
Make up some colored ice cubes to jazz up snow forts and snowmen.
Make in varying sizes using whatever containers you've got.
Leave outside overnight. Instant frozen fun!
Just stick the ice cubes into the snowman as if you were using coal.
Turns a snowman into a Snow Princess :-)

Do you use salt to join yours together? We tried that last year but even in winter it wasn't really cold enough and so we weren't very successful. I'd love to see the finished constructions.
ReplyDeletelove love the idea, I do something similiar that will be on my blog next week i put colored water in spray bottles the kids where old mittens and we "spray paint" our forts, castles etc...

ReplyDeleteGreat way to make the most of our freezing weather! Funny, I read your post and hadn't even thought of freezing ice cubes outside. Might be a good science lesson for Emma too - maybe then she will finally see the logic behind having to wear a coat when we go out?
ReplyDelete@Kristine - We do not join them together. We just stick them in the snow. We tried to make ice sculptures last year by using the salt technique. It was somewhat successful. What I found is Lu & Em had much more fun sticking them on their snowman (using them as eyes & buttons) or just decorating their makeshift snow fort (kinda like bedazzling with ice cubes.)

ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! I posted about making coloured ice cubes for the bath tub, so the kids could see colours blend.. and I've posted the idea of using them outside.. but haven't done it yet.. has anyone had problems with the dye getting into mits and snowsuits?
