St. Patrick's Day Craft: Rainbow Favor Cups
Having a St. Patrick's Day party or play date? Maybe just want to surprise your favorite Leprechaun?
How about this cute favor cup!
See how I made this...
Happy St. Patrick's Day
I forgot to take a picture of our rainbow Jello.
A last minute photo shoot on the sidewalk before school this morning!
We brought mini marshmallows to sprinkle on top for the "clouds."
St Patrick's Day Pony Tail Holder
Too much sparkle? Nah, not according to Lu!
Cut out shamrock.
Sew on sequins.
Use fabric glue to attach to another piece of felt.
Let dry and cut out.
Sew on hair elastic.
St. Patrick's Day Craft: Leprechaun Sized Cup Cake
Leprechaun sized cup cake.
Model Magic, Plastic cap from a squeeze apple sauce, Pony bead, and hot glue.
Roll a small piece of MM into a log. This is a basic technique and easy for kids to do. Show them how to not put a lot of pressure on the piece as they roll. Once you get a decent log, drop a dab of glue (I used hot glue) into the cap. Place end of log in cap and the spiral it to create cup cake top. Press pony bead into the top to create indent, add a dab of glue and then attach pony bead. Let dry.
Saint Patrick's Day Kid's Craft: Rainbow
Starting to decorate for Saint Patrick's Day.
Here is an easy rainbow craft for the preschool set.
Remember ROY G BIV?
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Indigo
Violet
Cut a paper plate in half. Paint your rainbow. Let dry.
Paint the other half of the plate gold or yellow. Let Dry.
Punch holes for hanging coins and top hanger.
Cut out coins. Punch holes in each coin. Attach string.
Tie onto rainbow. Glue "clouds"or cotton balls onto bottom of rainbow.
Hang and enjoy!
Optional: You can stamp a clover on each coin using the end of a pencil eraser.
Or you can use gold glitter to make your coins super sparkly.
You can add beads to the top hanger.
Valentines Day Craft: Paper Plate Spirals
Make this simple and pretty paper plate Valentine spiral to decorate your home with a little love.
This craft is best suited for children 5+ years old with some scissor skills. Adult supervision is necessary.
Instructions:
Paint a paper plate
Let Dry
Cut a spiral by turning the plate slowly as you cut.
Draw a spiral line on the plate to help guide younger children with cutting.
Punch hole at top end and string a ribbon, chenille stem or yarn on end to hang.
You can also add beads to dress it up.
You can also punch a hole on the other end and dangle a heart or other shape from bottom.
I chose to hang a string of hearts from the top.
Hang & Enjoy!
These can also be used for any party decoration using different colors and shapes.
For example, green with clover dangles for St. Patrick's Day.
Rainbow Craft: Part II
We finished our rainbow craft from 5 Orange Potatoes. It came out adorable. It was a wonderful opportunity to talk about rainbows and ROYGBIV(P). If I were to do it again I would have made a much smaller rainbow. I used a full 8x10 piece of paper for the rainbow template. I think half that size would have been better for a 3.5 year olds attention span. My daughter lost steam pretty early on. I don't have the finish project all cut out and pretty because we used so much glue it is still drying! Over all it was an easy project with pretty results. We also read What Makes a Rainbow & Noah's Ark to tie in with our beautiful pasta wheel rainbow.
Pipe Cleaner Shamrocks
Age: 10+
Level: easy (although kids closer to 10 may require assistance)
You may want your child practice by trying the heart project first.
2. Then fold 2 of the sections in half (it looks a bit like your making a star.)
3. Pinch one point with your fingers
4. Wrap and twist to form a heart
5. Twist at base to make sure it is secure
6. Repeat technique
7. You will have one stick with two heart on the end
8. Take another pipe cleaner and repeat steps 1 through 7
9. Wrap the base of one of your 2 heart sticks around the other to form a 4 leaf clover
10. Adjust and shape
There are lot's of possible uses for these. Let me know in the comments if you come up with something esp. clever!
